Morada

Morada de Nuestra Señora de La Paz is a reproduction of a morada (chapter house) in Abiquiu. A morada was used as a meeting house for the Penitente brotherhood which continues in New Mexico to this day. The penitents are a Catholic lay organization that grew roots due to a shortage of priests in the state leaving much of the work of the church to the people. And the people answered the call, providing their community members with spiritual and social aid, a tradition which continues to this day.

Photography is not permitted inside of the Morada.
