Activities for Families

At El Rancho de Las Golondrinas, history comes alive for families and children of all ages! Our family-friendly activities and events offer engaging and educational experiences that will create lasting memories.

Hands-On Activities
Immerse yourself in the past with a variety of hands-on activities. Children can try their hand at traditional chores, such as weaving, grinding corn, and tin stamping. These interactive sessions not only entertain but also educate, providing a glimpse into the daily lives of the early settlers.

Activities vary day-to-day, so please contact us to see if any special activities are happening on the day you plan to visit. Our staff and historical interpreters are always ready to help you make the most of your time at the museum.

Visit the Animals
Meet our farm animals! Kids will love visiting our churro sheep, goats, and burros. More animals, like alpacas, mules, and horses, often visit during festival weekends. Learn about the important roles these animals played in historic farming communities

“Can You Dig It?” Hands-On Archaeology Program
Unearth the wonders of the past at the “Can You Dig It?” program, an exciting hands-on archaeology dig designed especially for kids and families. This unique activity is available on select Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the season and gives kids the opportunity to learn about archaeology and New Mexico history by digging in a simulated archaeology pit.

The program is included in regular museum admission (member families and kids 12 and under always receive free admission). Program is suitable only for ages 5 and older. Parent supervision required. View our calendar for upcoming dates.

Children’s Tours
We offer private tours that are specifically tailored for families and younger audiences. Check out our Josefina Tour and NEW Children’s Tour, both of which offer an engaging and educational journey through time.
