Photo and Art Permits
El Rancho de Las Golondrinas is a historic ranch, now a living history museum, that dates back to the early 1700s and was an important paraje or stopping place along the famous Camino Real, the Royal Road from Mexico City to Santa Fe. As a result, the Museum’s outdoor features offer several picturesque opportunities for individuals or classes to paint and photograph outdoors. Due to the size and equipment often required for this activity (easels, chairs, tripods, reflectors, props, etc.) the museum requires individuals to obtain a Day-Use Painting/Photography Pass.
* The Museum welcomes photographers and visitors to take casual/informal vacation-style photographs, sketches and small-format painting for personal use without a painting/photography permit.
If you have questions contact our Director of Special Events and Site Rentals.
Individual Day Use (this is a step above casual/informal vacation style photography, drawing and painting):
Private individuals (noncommercial) are welcome to come to the museum to paint and photograph for personal use and enjoyment. Check-in at the Museum Store to register as a painter or photographer, sign a waiver, complete the necessary forms and pay a modest fee. This can be done in advance or same day. See forms below and turn in at Museum Store upon arrival.
Commercial Photography and Painting:
All commercial endeavors and groups (classes, photoshoots, senior class pictures, etc.) are required to contact our Director of Site Rentals and Special Events at least 3 weeks in advance to arrange access to the property, complete the necessary forms and pay a site rental fee. The Museum is unable to facilitate this type of access on short notice.
For more information or to book your site rental contact our Director of Special Events and Site Rentals.
The use of the Museum’s image and likeness without written permission is unlawful and subject to legal action. Those found conducting commercial photoshoots, classes or groups without prior authorization will be asked to leave and may face legal action.
